I’m sure you’ve all seen the impressive Grammy promo that features metallic liquid pulsating and swirling around Skrillex, but who made it and how was it made? Pixomondo, which is a visual effects company with a network of studios around the world, was the team behind this unique visual treat.

Over the course of almost 4 weeks, a team of six from two of the Pixomondo studios in Los Angeles and Berlin created the abstract piece. After the metallic liquid was developed and the team determined how the fluid would move, Skrillex was filmed on a motion capture stage in Venice along with a dancer who performed to his track. The movements of the dancer, Maryss, were then transformed into moving particles and linked to the motion captured footage. The liquid effect actually looks like its being driven by action, energy, and the music. When the dancer thrusts out an arm, the liquid accurately mimics that movement. The idea and finished product turned out excellent and if you haven’t already seen it, check it out below.
