As a special one night event, the LCD Soundsystem documentary entitled “Shut Up and Play the Hits” is set to hit theaters around the country on July 18, 2012. Before now the film has only been shown at film festivals, so if you missed it, here’s your chance.
Directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the documentary chronicles the events surrounding the band’s final days and their last show at New York’s Madison Square Garden on April 2, 2011.
The film is being put out by the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s company Oscilloscope Laboratories. Before he died, Adam had this to say about the film,
“Perhaps having grown up in a band for most of my life – a band that formed when I was 16 years old – and having released our first record when I was still in high school, this film addresses so many questions. For instance, it can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it’s brilliant of James [Murphy] to end it in such a definitive way.”
Check out the list of theaters HERE and if its not showing in your area, head over to Eventful to request a screening.
