EDM Makes it onto Forbes’ “The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” List

Earlier this week Forbes released their list of “The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” and you might not have guessed that a couple of EDM’s top dogs made the cut. The list is based on both money and fame and includes film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors, musicians and comedians.

Forbes:
“We define fame as media visibility in print, television, radio and online, plus social media power, which we measure by looking at each celebrity’s presence on Facebook and Twitter. The earnings consist of pretax income between May 1, 2011, and May 1, 2012.”

Making the list alongside the obvious Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, and Steven Spielberg is none other than both Tiesto and Skrillex.

Forbes Tiesto 84

Coming in just after Meryl Streep in the #84 spot is Tiesto who has reportedly made $23 million over the last year.

“The Dutch DJ grosses $250,000 per night on average; low production costs let him keep the bulk of that sum,” says Forbes. “With over 100 shows in the past year, he’s the top-earning electronic musician on our list; he also benefits from a strong social media presence that includes over 1 million Twitter followers and 12 million Facebook fans.”

Forbes Skrillex 92

Skrillex managed to make his way into the #92 spot, just under Larry The Cable Guy. Bringing in $15 million, Forbes had this to say about the Complextro star.

“If electronic music is a creed, Skrillex might be its high priest, or at least a prominent member of its clergy. He’s credited with popularizing dubstep, a particularly thumpy subgenre, and snagged three Grammys for his efforts this year. The side-mulleted DJ also cashed in on over 150 concerts spread across 16 countries in the past 12 months.”
